Additional characterisations and further test results of Placard
project, were presented during the 27th month meeting held on 1st April
at Unisalento premises in Lecce, Italy.
The project aims at
producing a new bio-based plasticizer for soft PVC which is obtained by
chemical modification of cardanol, an industrial grade oil obtained by
vacuum distillation of cashew nut shell liquid. By using a by-product
such as cashew nut shells the Placard plasticizer does not create
pressure on food resources.
A stable production process with
continuous aim at cost reduction was reported by Serichim. Whilst
additional tests performed at Unisalento laboratory such as UV stability
properties demonstrated good results which will be further
investigated. Furthermore, KOMMI presented test result in the industrial
production which was considered very promising.
Already executed
and reported test results triggered an interest to test this product in
different actors in the supply chain which will be now closely followed
and reported. This phase is planned in the last, exploitation phase of
the European project.
The Placard project is
co-financed by Eco-innovation initiative with expected end period by
31st December 2016. The Eco-innovation initiative is part of the EU's
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP), set up to support
innovation among SMEs and to improve their competitiveness
