New survey shows highest support for development aid amongst EU citizens in 6 years
Brussels, 29.02.2016 - Almost nine out of ten EU citizens support development (89% - a 4 percentage point increase since 2014.) EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, today presented the results from the EU's International Cooperation and Development Eurobarometer survey.
Figures show that the vast majority of Europeans hold a positive view about the benefits of international cooperation and development.
Almost three quarters agreed that development aid is an effective way to tackle irregular migration (73%) and 80% of Europeans believe that development is in the EU's own interest.
In 2016, the 10th edition of the European Development Days (EDD) will serve as the voice of the international development community and a platform to debate the 2030 Agenda. Each year, EDD attracts around 5 000 participants from more than 140 countries, representing 1200 organisations from the field of development cooperation, human rights and humanitarian aid.
