DES HAS EXPANDED ITS CAPABILITIES TO INCLUDE DIGITAL TOOLING

Aldridge, UK (January 18, 2016) - Digitally Engineered Solutions Ltd, a leader in digital engineering, today announced that they have expanded their services and are now able to produce digital tooling for the production of low volume plastic injection moulded parts. This means that the company will now be able to produce tools for customers in a matter of hours and days rather than the conventional weeks and months.

"We have invested significantly in new plant and processes and this investment allows DES to offer this new Digital Tooling service to our customers'', said Nick Lomax, Managing Director.

Digital tooling is a relatively new and virtually unheard of manufacturing process despite the significant benefits it offers over alternative methods of plastic injection mould tooling.

When using conventional plastic injection mould tooling that is made from steel or aluminium, customers can expect to wait weeks to months in order for the manufacture of the parts to be completed. Digital tooling has instead made it possible for customers to receive custom injection moulds that produce low volumes of parts in the correct and final production of Polymer and colour, at a significantly quicker and much cheaper rate.

In fact, costs can be up to 80% cheaper when using digital tooling instead of conventional steel or aluminium. More importantly, when it comes to time, months can be saved in the product design process. Thanks to this technology, DES can now go from mould design to full and final product testing in a matter of hours and days. That is a really significant break through and appeals to many of our customers.

"At DES we have been working tirelessly for some time now on our new digital tooling process and systems. All of the hard work and development is starting to come to fruition with parts being turned around within record times but also at record low costs," continues Nick Lomax.

"Our digitally printed moulds are not high volume production tools. However during the design and
testing phase, they do offer a clear advantage over conventional injection moulding and 3d printing."

"Product designers and manufacturers can use our moulds to produce realistic parts to perform thorough functional testing without worrying about conventional cost-prohibitive tooling. Flaws based on the final production process, geometry or choice of plastic can be discovered early, when they are easiest to fix. This can reduce costly, time-consuming mould corrections, increase product innovation and speed product development".

DES carry out the whole digital process from under 1 roof; from Laser Scanning, CAD Design, Digital Printing, 3D Printing, Conventional Toolmaking and Plastic Injection Moulding.
