This is a wonderful book. Readers will enjoy reading it more than once, to fully explore and savor its depth and richness.
The author's words and characters, steeped in mysticism and pre-conscious imagery, portray a series of linked tales of life, love, pain and wishes, all deeply rooted in our humanity. Yet there is no sense of the familiar and, while the images are fresh, they are also timeless, perhaps even eternal.
For this book, the author (an accomplished painter and photographer) has chosen words, instead of the painter's brush or the photographer's lens, to express her vision. But unlike the painter's canvas or the photographer's paper (which are external objects), here, it is the reader's mind that provides the canvas / photographic paper, for the author's handiwork. It has been said, about some renowned painters of our time, that they epitomize the "painter as poet". We have here an author, Haidji, who epitomizes the "poet as painter".
