NTK Europe is a company founded in 1997 and specialized in the production of high precision mechanic components according to client's drawing, working mainly in the hydraulic sector.
The two plants are in Brandico (near Brescia), including both manufacturing and office operations.
In 2013, the management has decided to undertake a process of renewal and adaptation of corporate standards, which also involved the lighting and that's why Helvar was asked to design the lighting control and management system.
"The lighting design," says dr. Marco Colombo, CEO of NTK Europe "is part of a larger plan, thought to create a work environment that is already in line with what could be the standard in 2020."
The lighting control system was therefore an automation integrated with other automations and the company's choice to put it in practice came from two main requirements: reduce operating costs and increase the working comfort of employees.
Marco Colombo continues: "Cost is an important issue, so all investments exceeding five years certainly bring with them a question mark, but we are fully satisfied of Helvar suggestions. By starting with an high-quality LED technology we were able, thanks to the Helvar systems, to dim the light in order to have automatic consumption at certain times on operating uncontrolled areas and at the same time it was possible to take advantage of the supply of natural light from outside. "
The lighting concept
The lighting project - made by Alessandro Baresi - kicked off from a preliminary study on the economic costs of management. Based on the target to achieve efficiency and sustainability, the company management wanted to understand in advance, through costs analysis, which would be the best solution, and this assumption led to the decision to use high efficiency dimmable LED sources - using them almost everywhere in the areas - and regulate them through a control system.
The work started with what might be called an initial pilot project, which involved the newest plant. The results were more than satisfactory so that the company has decided to move on and upgrade in terms of lighting the entire NTK headquarters. A bet won for everyone involved that, working in team, have shown to the company management how an entirely adaptable system can be more effective and more efficient both in terms of energy savings and visual comfort.
Lighting control system by Helvar: NTK a company without switches
The different areas of the two plants – manufacturing spaces and offices - are managed from a single centralized system which is headed by Helvar routers - 910 DIGIDIM ROUTER and 905 DIGIDIM ROUTER - that through the DALI bus act on luminaires, controlled via DALI by dimmers regulating the light output. By utilising light and presence sensors it was also possible to obtain a timely adjustment, especially in production environments, divided into several areas regulated separately and managed in an autonomous way according to the working requirements, with its light and presence sensors.
The end result makes NTK a company without switches, where everyone can enjoy the same visual comfort and work in an environment that offers the highest standards in term of quality.
Another plus of Helvar control system installed is that it communicates with the alarm system via the intrusion control unit : the one who switches the alarm on at night automatically switches off the light and vice versa in the morning when turning it off. A feature that could be further enhanced in case of intrusion, putting the lighting system at the service of company's security needs, proving once again how Helvar equipment's are not stand alone, but can communicate seamlessly with other systems .
Helvar has also offered a training service, supporting the maintenance manager directly inside the company, where the system has already been installed and programmed. Through practical exercises, an Helvar engineer explained the functionality of the Helvar software: how to set up the lighting and other loads, light sensors and presence ones and user interfaces, such as giving instructions for the operation of the sensors and the control groups lights by other groups, outlined the basic backup and restore configuration as well as the method of replacing and restoring broken devices.
The added value of Helvar was to really listen to the client, understand its needs and give them concrete feedback, with a close follow-up at every stage, from system design to implementation, up to a coaching training to make the company autonomous in plant management.
